Summer Camps Shut Down, Care Packages Sent Out
Many children and families across the Nation had hoped that summer activities would still take place. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic continued to be an ongoing issue, which forced many summer activities to be put on hold, including summer camps.
North Shore Holiday House was one of many camps affected by the pandemic. Located in Huntington, NY, North Shore Holiday House is an independent, not-forprofit organization that provides free summer experiences to more than 200 children each summer. This camp serves an economically disadvantaged population, many of whom faced even more challenges due to the pandemic.
North Shore Holiday House’s Board of Directors made it their mission to find a way to still bring joy to children in the area this summer, which led to the creation of Camp Cares.
Through the Camp Cares program, North Shore Holiday House filled bags with toys that were donated by Toys for Tots and distributed through Good360. These care packages were given to 100 campers that were not able to attend summer camps.
Many families were upset that their children could not attend camp, but thankful for the care packages. “We are disappointed about our daughter not attending camp this year,” said a mother of an 11-year-old camper. “Your gifts have kept her very busy this week and will for weeks to come. We can’t thank you enough.”
